For the first time ever, California’s governor ordered a statewide water reduction after the state’s long-running drought officially reached crisis level. Gov. Jerry Brown’s goal is to reduce overall water use by 25% over the next nine months. This crackdown will focus on irrigation of lawns and outdoor landscapes which account for large amount of water usage. The agriculture and farming industry is already feeling the sting of the mandatory conservation, as 400,000 acres of fields were unplanted in 2014, resulting in a loss of 17,000 jobs.
