Lawsuit Sparks Fire on the Topic of Diversity in Advertising

Recent allegations paint an unflattering portrait of the New York advertising and marketing industry.  Top executives at leading ad agencies are being reprimanded, fired, and named in lawsuits ranging from racist and sexist remarks as well as unwanted touching.  In a 2015 Bloomingdale’s holiday catalog there was an ad headlined “Spoke Your Best Friend’s Eggnog When They’re Not Looking,” with the accompanying image of a woman with her head turned and a man with a sidelong glance.  Critics interpreted this ad as promoting date rape.
